The PSAT Reading and Writing Section
Formerly two separate sections, the new digital PSAT combines Reading and Writing into a single 64-minute, 54-question section. Questions are divided into two modules of equal length due to the digital exam’s multistage adaptive design. This means your performance on the first module will determine the difficulty and content of the second module.
The test covers four content categories:
01
Information and Ideas
02
Craft & Structure
03
Expression of Ideas
04
Standard English Conventions
The test covers four content categories: Craft and Structure, Information and Ideas, Standard English Conventions, and Expression of Ideas. Passages and graphics (such as related imagery or data displays) are used to assess your skills as both a reader and writer. All questions are multiple-choice.
To help you better target your weak areas, we have divided our PSAT practice materials into separate Reading and Writing content sections. You can work through them all or focus on the question types and fundamental knowledge you feel least confident about.
With 54 questions to answer on the official exam, you’ll have approximately one minute and 11 seconds per question. As you work on the practice tests above, time yourself to determine whether you are at an exam-ready pace. Start your test prep today, and good luck on exam day!
