The PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a digitally administered exam designed to assess your readiness for the SAT. Importantly, your PSAT score can qualify you for scholarships, as many programs—including the National Merit Scholarship Corporation—use it to determine eligibility. High performers may receive financial aid for college through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and other PSAT partners.

This test also provides an excellent opportunity to evaluate your understanding of key subjects from your classes and potentially earn scholarships that support your future educational goals. To make the most of this opportunity, thorough preparation is essential.

The PSAT is a two-hour, 14-minute exam divided into two sections:

01

Reading and Writing Section:

64 minutes, 54 questions

02

Math Section:

70 minutes, 44 questions

The PSAT 10

The PSAT 10 is tailored for tenth graders and helps prepare them for the official PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT. While it shares the same timing, structure, and scoring as the PSAT/NMSQT, the PSAT 10 focuses on slightly different areas of mathematics to align with the sophomore curriculum. Additionally, it includes both a no-calculator section and a calculator-permitted section, unlike the PSAT/NMSQT’s open-calculator format.

How We Can Help

Our practice tests are designed to support preparation for both the PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10. To replicate the adaptive testing approach of the official exams, our tests become progressively more challenging as you advance.

Each section is further broken into two modules of equal length. Most questions are multiple-choice, though the Math section includes a few write-in responses.
